This is the FULL OzMetro BBS distribution release archive. It contains
a FULL working version of everything you need to setup the OzMetro BBS
program, and is NOT crippleware or anything. Everything works - well I
HOPE so, anyway :-)
OzMetro is a substantially restructured new release of the old Metro BBS
system. It has been re-vamped to enable even a novice sysop to be
logging into a working setup in LESS THAN TEN MINUTES, while retaining
all the power previously available as well as adding far more features.
OzMetro is an extremely reliable BBS program and is an excellent choice
for a novice sysop. There is no compulsory registration fee for the
program and the release version is not crippled in any way at all. Note
that OzMetro is only a single line BBS program at the moment.
OzMetro also has NO message functions inbuilt, these are done by the
Plutonic *.MSG area manager with serial routines, which is also being
released today (and you should also obtain, naturally). Use of the
standard *.MSG base means you have a wide choice of mail software.
As a companion to THIS archive, you should get the Plutonic archive
(PltNic21.lha). This provides all the MESSAGE functions for OzMetro.
You will also want to obtain as many door files as you can find to run
off your BBS program. You can run Metro format doors, doors written for
Paragon/StarNet (as long as they don't ask for system files) and also
Generic CLI programs that run in the shell and exit on receipt of a
Ctrl-C signal. OzMetro is VERY flexible when it comes to doors :-) I
currently have 93 (different) doors running at Inquestor!
In this archive, I'll be including a list of all doors suitable for
running on an OzMetro BBS that are downloadable or Freqable from
Inquestor, and probably a few other BBSs by the time you read this.
This file is called Doors&Utes.txt.
Don't forget you can always search for Generic CLI and Paragon doors on
any old Amiga-supporting BBS. If you find anything useful, I'd love to
be either told about it, or even receive a copy, if I don't already have
the door here at Inquestor.
This archive consists of 7 directories. The BBS program, Maintenance
program and the Setup program are found in the BBS directory.
The Bin directory contains a number of programs the BBS runs. See the
documentation for how to install these ones. If you keep things like
this in your c: directory, you may as well copy them all there now.
The Docs directory is where you should start looking - at least SCAN the
OzMetro documentation for information on how to launch the Setup
program. The Setup Program will setup a BASIC OzMetro system for you in
less than ten minutes. Please use it, it's great.
The Doorfiles1 directory contains TWO doors that are setup as example
LogOff doors in OzMetro. After you run the setup program, copy these
directories in the Doorfiles1 directory of this archive to YOUR
Doorfiles1 directory, and two doors will be INSTANTLY available to your
system. See in the main documentation under "Logoff Doors" for specific
info on these two doors.
ALSO in this directory is the Today In History program for getting
"Today's Events" setup. Likewise, this directory should go verbatim to
YOUR Doorfiles1 directory.
Archives of the two OzMetro door interpreters (P2M and PlutCLI) are also
found in the Doorfiles1 directory for your later use. If you want a
remote DOS shell for Sysop use, you can do this from PlutCLI - see the
docs in that archive for how to do this.
In the examples directory you'll find some of my key menus, scripts and
textfiles. Have a look at these AFTER you've set the BBS up and need
some inspiration as to what you can do to customise your setup.
The libs directory contains 5 xpr libraries and the arp.library. You
will most probably already have these, but they've been included just in
case.
The contents of the TextFiles1 directory should be copied to YOUR
textfiles1 directory after you've set the BBS up. Don't forget you can
edit these files, customising them for your own BBS.
PS: The FileList program archive (FiList31.lha) is included in this
archive in the BBS directory. Use this to get ASCII textfiles of your
OzMetro file areas.
